Guisborough has much to offer the visitor. Gisborough Priory XII Century Augustinian ruins dominate the town and are certainly worth a visit. The Priory, founded by Robert de Brus was considered to be the best in England when built in 1129. Westgate is now the main hub of activity, a cobbled, thriving, bustling street of shops, pubs, restaurants and businesses. There is a market every Thursday and Saturday, small selection of stalls on a Tuesday and specialist markets, such as the French Market and Farmers’ Market visiting regulary.  Enjoy some wonderful inspirational landscape artwork  and photography by artists, John Cheall and Graham Shackleton- the images in Yorkshire are amazing!

activities for children
argument cottage contains a wide selection of books, games, videos and DVDs. Why not take the children to Guisborough Forest and Walkway for a lovely walk or activity session. In Guisborough, near to the cottage there is the King George V playing field with a public swimming pool, playground and tennis court. You can also walk to Belmangate and onwards to Highcliffe.

You can always take a short drive to Saltburn or one of the other myriad local coastal villages and towns- such as Skinningrove, Port Mulgrave, Staithes, Whitby, Runswick Bay, Robin Hoods Bay- and entertain the children for free on the beach. They can spend endless hours just enjoying the sea, rock pools and sand, weather permitting!
